I know many college students and/or recent college graduates are in my same exact position: contemplating how to decorate your new apartment!

Let’s rattle off the questions that we must answer to ensure each of our individual apartments are fantastic:

•What color scheme should I use?
•How many colors should I use?
•How many colors is too many colors?
Should I add patterns to my apartment?
•How many patterns are acceptable?
•Does everything have to match?

These are only six of the thousands of questions running through my head, but I figured out that there is one question that combines all of the tedious questions that you have: what/whom should I draw inspiration from to design my perfect apartment?

As a woman with a passion for fashion, I think the most effective way to find your apartment’s muse is to choose a clothing designer. You can apply a designer’s particular color scheme, pattern use, shape use, and general ambiance to create the perfect apartment!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: which designer should I choose? Well, all designers are amazing in their own unique way, but I have a list of four designers that will help cater to every individual’s personality and style! Read on to learn more.

For Love and Lemons: Little, but Extravagant Material

I love For Love and Lemons particularly for their use of lace. For Love and Lemons is known for its beautiful lingerie and delicate dresses.

Now, how does this transfer to an apartment? Well, if you are like me, you go by the ideology “less is more.” Even though the fabric For Love and Lemons uses is intricate and detailed, there isn’t a lot of fabric to work with. If you choose to use this brand as your inspiration, here is your official punch list for your For Love and Lemons apartment:

•Only one or two colors within your color scheme

•If you choose a pattern, make sure the pattern is not too busy and remains faithful to your color scheme

•Use lots of white and cream to make your one bright color pop

•Choose furniture or other various items that don’t have “sharp edges”

Blue Life: Young, Wild, Free and Bohemian

Blue Life is an emerging brand that promotes the “chiller” lifestyle through their bohemian clothing items. If you have ever seen Blue Life clothing, you know that they make a lot of loose-fitting items that are on the shorter side. They also use lots of floral and tie-dye patterns that give off a summer vibe.

If you decide to design your apartment based on Blue Life, you want to embrace a lack of structure in the decorating of your space; here is a punch list for your Blue Life apartment:

•One solid color paired with either a floral or tie-dye pattern

•Lots of tapestries and twinkly lights

•Use colors that are not too harsh and give off a relaxing vibe

Choose furniture or other various items that have an antique-feel

Wildfox Couture: Trendy, Classy and Fresh

Wildfox is known for its “out there” clothing and for having the softest, most comfortable sweaters in the entire world. If you love Wildfox, you are not afraid to step outside of the box and make a statement, similar to Wildfox clothing.

Wildfox combines cartoony, almost bubble-gum-like patterns with an edgy ambiance. If you are so inclined to draw inspiration from Wildfox, here is your official punch list for your Wildfox apartment:

•Abstract color scheme that combines lots of different patterns and colors

•Cartoon-like accessories that almost resemble your childhood bedroom

•A combination of sharp-edged accessories with soft color undertones

•A huge, plush, super soft blanket that feels almost as good as a Wildfox sweater

Mikoh: Edgy, Simple, Assertive

Mikoh is known for their (unfortunately expensive) swimwear. If you go on their website, you see something very simple and easy to navigate. As you delve deeper into your “research,” you notice that their bathing suits are clean, simple and sharp.

They have a variety of colors and also offer various patterns that are not whimsical, but rather clean-cut. All of their bathing suits are made out of the same, durable material (a quality that is a necessity when designing an apartment). Here is your official punch list for your Mikoh apartment:

•Darker color scheme

•Sharp-lined patterns

•Modern furniture and accessories

•Square and/or rectangular wall art

Each of these designers/brands are equally amazing and will all inspire beautifully designed apartments. However, these are only a few of the many fantastic choices. Go on Tumblr, Pinterest, or Buzzfeed for more apartment ideas!
